Artemis Leadership

Jan Mills

Founder/CEO

Jan Mills started down the path that led to building a wellness-based business on a business trip to Poland in 1989. Pregnant at the time, Jan was often encouraged to drink aronia juice because it would be good for the baby. She was intrigued. Six years later, after considerable research and some interesting trial and error encounters, she transformed her passion for wellness into Artemis International.

In 1995, Artemis began developing relationships with manufacturing partners to offer a line of berry-based ingredients leaning heavily on the potential health benefits of dark berries.  Under her direction, Artemis forged numerous clinical research partnerships and became an industry leader on berry-related scientific data.

Jan earned her undergraduate degree at the former General Motors Institute of Technology, now Kettering University, and her MBA at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Over the years she has served on boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement.

Beyond the business world, Jan enjoys scuba, skiing and high altitude climbing. She has three children, whom she considers to be her most successful projects to date.

Leslie Gallo

President

During the course of her 17-year tenure at Artemis, Leslie has had hands-on management responsibility for every key facet of the business including operations, finance, product line management, key account development, global sourcing, marketing, science and quality.

As president, Leslie’s efforts are on strategic planning and cross-collaborating with Artemis’ manufacturing partners, helping to continually refine extraction and drying technologies to produce the most trusted flavonoid-rich ingredients in the marketplace. She is continuously driving revenue growth, developing the supply chain and partnerships, and assuring compliance with increasingly stringent marketplace regulations. Equally important is ensuring every team member remains committed to upholding the company’s mission and vision, helping to develop competitive advantages and safeguarding Artemis’ reputation for quality, trust, and reliability.

Leslie attended St. John’s University and New York University and began her career in the high-stakes construction management field in NYC. It was a move to Indiana and later meeting Jan Mills that her career took a distinctly different turn to the world of nutraceuticals. In her spare time, she is an avid animal rescuer and dedicated nonprofit board member, serving organizations whose mission is to protect domestic pets, wildlife, parks, and the environment.

Melanie Bush

Vice President of Science and Research

A single word underscores her entire career trajectory: science. For more than a decade in a uniquely collaborative role, Melanie has laser-focused on berry phytonutrient research and communicates the ever-evolving clinical data across Artemis departments including quality assurance, research and development and sales support.

Melanie attended Purdue University-Fort Wayne (IPFW) on a full academic scholarship, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology. While there she scored multiple academic awards for her six years of immunology research on high anthocyanin berry extracts and their immune-enhancing and anti-cancer effects. From there she began nurturing relationships with some of the top researchers in the field of fruit and vegetable studies, and as a result she is often privy to early data. Melanie also oversees Artemis’ analytical lab and investigates potential new clinical opportunities.

An active community volunteer and philanthropist, Melanie was recently recognized by Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly as one of “Forty Under 40” through a competitive process that identifies top professionals in northeast Indiana who give back to their communities. She has also received Indiana’s NewsCenter Women in Leadership Award and a proclamation from the Mayor of Fort Wayne for her volunteer work around cancer awareness and prevention. She teaches online biology courses and advises a local scholarship program for young women. Beyond her many professional jobs, Melanie’s most fulfilling personal role is being the mom of two young sons.

Ron Tippmann

Chief Financial Officer

Ron brought a wealth of financial expertise to Artemis when he arrived here nine years ago. He began his career as a commercial loan officer with a large regional bank before veering into private industry to provide financial guidance to a fast-growing food ingredient distributor in the throes of prepping for acquisition. After that successful stint, he spent a decade gaining solid management experience with a multinational billion-dollar medical device manufacturer. The sum of all of those financial experiences only strengthened Ron’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and fueled his resolve to make the kinds of real-time decisions that keep Artemis on rock-solid financial footing.

Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University, Bloomington and remains an avid IU basketball fan to this day. Outside of work, he spends every moment he can outdoors, playing sports with his family and tending the family vegetable garden. Ron is particularly proud of his pro-caliber grilling skills and has developed several unique recipes that he keeps under lock and key.
